________________________ A message from Drew Curtis: ________________________ Hey everyone hope your week's been well. Do you have any favorite live cams? Up until last week we had the bald eagle nest FOBBV Eagle Cam on at our house, but the eagles have successfully grown up and flown off to parts unknown. Now I'm wondering what other live cam to try. I've got a few weeks to find a new one because the Tour de France is on now and does pretty well. (The whole thing's basically an awesome commercial for visiting all over France.) Anyhow, for when that's over what are your suggestions for a live feed to have on in the background during the day? Thursday 4pm it's the Fark News Livestream with the whole crew. We usually have a weekly segment called AI Is Going Great, but that segment might end up being the entire show this week at this rate. Also, aliens, Shakespear, and NHL fights on the golf course. Programming note: after this week, no livestream for the next two weeks. Folks are all over the place. We'll pick back up again in August. ________________________ End Drew transmission ________________________ Top CommentsSome of the top-voted smartest and funniest comments from the past week.If your post isn't here, assume that NotNewsletterMonkey couldn't think of a tagline.(The Smartest and Funniest for the past month are found elsewhere.) Upcoming Fark Parties It's easy to plan for a Fark Party - you're effectively saying that "I'm going to be here at this time, come hang out." Submit one! Fark Headlines of the WeekA selection of some of the top headlines from last week. A limb away, a limb away, a limb away Chapel Hill flooding leaves apartments, stores, cars full of water. If only there were a large source of suction somewhere just up the highway Unlicensed teen kills 2 while racing new vehicle his Grandma bought him. Fark: He was racing his Grandma On this day in history, in 1959, the first US troops were killed in South Vietnam. Also on this day, in 1969, the first US troops were withdrawn from South Vietnam. It's a good thing we used that decade productively This public service announcement brought to you by Marion Cran Fark Weird News Quiz (brought to you by ox45tallboy)Another fun time on the Quiz this week, where we learned that American traditions can come from cheapo oligarchs trying to make a buck off their trash, and guys screwing around on the job site. On the Quiz itself, Blackstone and rick42 tied for the top spot with 1009, followed by meatwhistle in second with 967 and The Third Man in third with 954. WoolyManwich made fourth with 927, and utilaholic takes the number five spot with 904. The hardest question on last week's Hard Quiz was surprisingly about our friendly neighbors to the North and their foundational national holiday. Only 24% of quiztakers knew that Canada Day marked the anniversary of the day in 1867 when Canada was confederated under one government, with the colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Canada (what is now Omtario and Quebec) united as "Canada". The anniversary of the Statute of Westminster on December 11, 1931 and the anniversary of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms on April 17, 1982 are both observed, but are not public holidays. They probably have mattress sales or something. The easiest question on last week's Hard Quiz was the geography question. 84% of quiztakers knew that Tuvalu, which will soon be mostly underwater at high tide, is in the South Pacific Ocean. São Tomé and Príncipe is in the Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of Gabon, and Comoros is in the Indian Ocean just northwest of Madagascar. While both have a steeper topagraphy than Tuvalu, it's worth noting that 90% of the beaches in Comoros have disappeared in the last 20 years and São Tomé and Príncipe is looking at a 30 cm (~1 ft( rise in sea level within the next 25 years. The hardest question on last week's Easy Quiz was about which artist nearly got tossed out of her giant hamster ball floating over the audience during a concert weekend before last. Only 61% of quiztakers recognized "Chained to the Rythm" as a 2017 hit by Katy Perry. Considering that Beyoncé nearly fell out of her flying car when it suddenly tilted over the audience only a few days prior, I'm gonna stay out of the floor seats in concerts until this fad dies down. The easiest question on the Easy Quiz was about which restaurant chain is "de-cluttering " all the crap on their walls that gave it its charm and is now going for a more "modern" look. 94% of quiztakers knew that Cracker Barrel was the place you went with your grandfather so you could point to old shaving equipment and ask "what's that?" and he would tell you because he used to use one just like it. Their new "modern" look of "organized" collections of washboards and coal scuttlers and hat brushes neatly lined up in frames seems kind of... strange, like they're trying to upcycle old junk rather than present items with real history and promote discussion about how they were used in the home. If you missed out last week, now is a great time to catch up on the Fark Weird News Quiz now that you know a few of the answers. Congratulations once again to the winners, and we'll do it all again on Friday.
