Parents cautioned against allowing minor children to drive vehicles

Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patel has said action will be taken against the owners of the vehicles also who give their vehicles to minors for driving.
Mr. Vikrant Patel said they are focussing on taking punitive action against minors who are resorting to over-speeding endangering their own lives and also the lives of others. “We have decided to take action against the minors driving vehicles and also against their parents and the owners of the vehicles,” the SP said.
Mr Vikrant Patel said for the first offence, the minor will be counselled in the presence of their parents and let off. If the same offence is repeated, a fine of ₹5,000 would be levied and if the offence is repeated against, the parents of the minor will be produced before the court for judicial remand. “Those who repeatedly violate this rule will face criminal cases and their licences will be suspended permanently,” the SP said.
Further, action will also be taken for over-speeding, driving while using a mobile phone, and causing inconvenience to the people by performing stunts or removing silencers causing nuisance.
The SP said 171 cases have been registered in the past six months against minors and a penalty of ₹91,485 collected from violators.
