________________________ A message from Drew Curtis: ________________________ Hey everyone hope your weeks been well. Had a blast at the Chicago Fark Party this past weekend. The venue was the Lincoln Tap Room, where we had several Fark parties in the past mainly because Bukharin used to live right next door to it and he was the one who set them up. Can't say much has changed there, including the 24 hour diner next door that I have zero memory of but everyone says I've eaten there at least twice. I drove there from Western Iowa the day before, I was at a friend's wedding reception. Got to drive through a dust storm on the way there - apparently it made the national news cycle. While I was driving in it, it started raining mud. It's going to take me hours to wash the car this weekend. Shoutout to our Farktography folks - thanks for 20 years (and still going strong) of sharing your amazing photography. Today 4pm ET it's the Fark News Livestream: we've got everyone this week. Gonna lead with a deep dive into the weirdness around Musk's very bad no good media cycle this week - it's weirder than you think. Also, AI is going great, live action Skibidi Toilet directed by Michael Bay, and parrot chlamydia.________________________ End Drew transmission ________________________ Top InteractionsSome of the best interactions from the past week. On the Quiz itself, richh99 came out on top with 1016, followed by jordawesome in second with 1013 and krispos42 in third with 997. wildcardjack made fourth with 990, and JasonOfOrillia rounds out the top five with 976. The hardest question on last week's Hard Quiz was about the very Canadian treat known as Nanaimo bars. Only 34% of quiztakers knew of the ubiquitous dessert that's about as common in Canadian potlucks, barbecues, and other get-togethers as American brownies. The bars are made from a base of ground nuts, wafer (or graham cracker) crumbs, and coconut, with a vanilla custard on top set in the refrigerator and then topped with a chocolate ganache (melted chocolate chips). If you want to surprise the family with some international fare, there are plenty of recipes online, just be prepared to make them again because you'll be getting requests. The easiest question on last week's Hard Quiz was also about Canada, this time about the royal charter signed by King Chuck II in 1670 that many consider to be one of Canada's most important founding documents. 88% of quiztakers knew that Chuck granted control of all of the territory whose waters flowed into Hudson's Bay, aka Rupert's Land, to the company founded by his cousin Rupert and coincidentally named the Hudson's Bay Company, some 40% of modern Canada. The company later evolved into a Canadian retail giant but is now facing bankruptcy due to not further moving with the times, or possibly some medieval prophecy relating to there being a new King Chuck for the first time in 355 years. The hardest question on last week's Easy Quiz was about which Yacht Rock artist hates his music being called "Yacht Rock". Only 66% of quiztakers knew that the 1985 Paul Young hit "Everytime You Go Away" featured in "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" was actually written by Daryll Hall and recorded by Hall & Oates for their 1980 album "Voices". Fun fact: John Oates likes the term, which might actually explain their huge and rather public breakup last year. The easiest question on last week's Easy Quiz was about the 45th birthday of a true Japanese icon. 84% of quiztakers knew that Puck-Man cabinets started appearing in coffeehouses, shopping centers, and department stores in Tokyo in 1980. When Namco was in the process of bringing them to the US, someone had the good sense to point out the predilection of American youth to deface things in order to make them say bad words, and that the "P" in "Puck-Man" was just asking for the right-hand side to be scrubbed off or painted over by creative hoodlums, So Puck-Man became Pac-Man because Fac-Man isn't funny. But to make up for it, Namco's US price of twenty-five cents per play was far lower than the 100 yen it costs in Japan, which was the equivalent of about 42 cents US in 1980. If you missed out last week, now's a great time to catch up on the Fark Weird News Quiz now that you know a few of the answers. Congratulations once again to the winners, and we'll do it all again on Friday.
