A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a father and son were killed in a stabbing in London.
At 1:00 p.m. local time on Monday, July 28, police responded to reports of four people stabbed during an assault at a business unit in Long Lane, Bermondsey, the Metropolitan Police stated in a news release.
Among the victims were 58-year-old-Terry McMillan, who died at the scene, and his 27-year-old son, Brendan, who died later from his injuries. Police earlier reported that a man in his 30s was in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from the attack.
A 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the stabbing on Monday. He was initially detained over the incident and is in the hospital in a non-life-threatening condition.
“A crime scene is in place at a nearby hotel where the arrested man went into. We are aware of speculation the man was staying at the hotel, this is not the case,” police said.
The stabbing took place at the office of the property development company Trademark Group, run by Terry in South London. The father of three founded the business in 1998 and ran several other businesses, as well as the charity The McMillan Family Trust, set up in 2007, per BBC News and The Telegraph.
Brendan studied sports management at the University of Gloucestershire in Cheltenham, England, per The Telegraph. He also played for the Old Colfeians rugby club based in South East London.
The team wrote in a tribute on Instagram, “Yesterday, Old Colfeians lost a member of our family, one of the kindest, funniest, most genuine people you could ever meet. Brendan lit up every room he walked into ... His absence will be deeply felt for a long time to come."
"… We are also mourning the loss of his beloved father, Terry, a long time supporter and sponsor of the club. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends during this incredibly difficult time."
