New York and New Jersey already are starting to reap the benefits as one of FIFA’s to-be hot spots for two major upcoming events — the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 and FIFA World Cup 2026.
On Thursday, FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced that the global soccer organization will donate $1 million to the area in an effort to support community focused sports programs and projects.
It’s a part of an $11 million investment in the cities that are set to host club matches: Atlanta, Charlotte, N.C., Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, Orlando, Fla., Philadelphia, Washington and New York — by way of MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
“We want to do something for the communities because one of the things that strikes me here in North America — and this has to change — is that there are not enough facilities to play soccer in the right environment,” Infantino said in a statement. “So to contribute to building something in the areas of the cities that is most needed is something that we have to do. It is our responsibility, and I hope that many will follow us in this.”
MetLife Stadium will be a host for both major tournaments, and it will be the site for the final match of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which kicks off June 14.
