Five Man Utd stars' most likeliest next club they could be sold to after Europa League blow
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
The repercussions of Manchester United's disastrous Europa League final defeat in Bilbao continue to rumble on. While the club privately insisted that they no longer regarded any squad member as 'untouchable' as far back as the turn of the year, Wednesday's defeat has thrown the future of many in Ruben Amorim's squad into sharper focus . While Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana were previously deemed the only players not for sale as United prepared for the transfer window towards the end of last season. But regardless of their status within the team this year, no one is safe from the chop. United could be set to grapple with a severe financial crisis after the crushing 1-0 defeat to Tottenham cost them a spot in next season's Champions League , and an estimated £100million in revenue. For only the second time in 35 years, they will not participate in any European competition next season – the other season being the 2014/15 campaign after David Moyes' dismal solo campaign. Without this additional income, United have no option but to offload players to generate funds for Ruben Amorim to bolster his squad. Here we take a look at five United stars who could potentially be playing elsewhere next season, with Betfair providing odds on their most likely destinations, should they depart before September 2, 2025. Despite often being a ray of hope for United, the 20-year-old has faced numerous issues under Amorim, with behavioural problems being the main concern, reports the Mirror . Having found himself relegated to the bench on several occasions in recent months, the young Argentinian – once hailed as the future of United – may well be seeking a new club this summer, particularly following his public outburst on Wednesday night. Garnacho has expressed his frustration over being left on the bench for the Europa League final, with Mason Mount chosen to play on the left wing by Amorim. His public criticism and his brother and agent's Instagram post criticising Amorim's decision may not bode well for him if he wishes to remain at the club this summer. Chelsea were among the clubs rumoured to be interested in Garnacho back in January, and it seems they are still in the running should he be put up for sale. Odds for Garnacho's next club: Atletico Madrid - 4/1 Chelsea - 5/1 Juventus, Napoli - 15/2 Inter Milan - 9/1 AC Milan, Tottenham - 10/1 Aston Villa - 22/1 United's high-profile signing of 2023 has been plagued by injuries and setbacks since his £55m move from Chelsea. Despite finding some first-team opportunities recently, United might be open to selling the England international. The 26-year-old has made just 25 appearances in all competitions this season. However, given his injury history, it seems unlikely that United would be able to recoup the fee they paid for him. Odds for Mount's next club: West Ham - 5/1 Aston Villa - 13/2 Newcastle - 15/2 Nottingham Forest, Tottenham - 17/2 Juventus, Chelsea - 9/1. Mainoo emerged as a promising talent for United and England, with hopes that he could be United's star player for years to come. Despite his undeniable talent, the 20-year-old has struggled with injuries this season, and his form has also suffered. One might assume that the Old Trafford supporters would prefer to retain Mainoo, but the young player is now also potentially facing departure this summer. Chelsea in particular are known to be admirers. Odds for Mainoo's next club: Chelsea - 3/1 Juventus - 4/1 Aston Villa, Inter Milan - 5/1 Bayern Munich - 13/2 Nottingham Forest - 15/2 Tottenham - 10/1. Is a return of 26 goals in 94 games sufficient enough for the 22-year-old who cost United £64m in 2023? The verdict is still out. The young Dane has demonstrated glimpses of the talent that led United to take a risk on him while he was performing well for Atalanta. However, he has often been inconsistent during matches, and his poor performance in the Europa League final may linger in the memory. The club might consider selling him while he's still young, but it seems unlikely another Premier League team would gamble on him. Odds for Hojlund's next club: Juventus- 9/4 AC Milan - 5/1 Atalanta - 13/2 Napoli - 17/2 Inter Milan, Bayer Leverkusen - 10/1. As United's captain and the player most likely to rescue them time and again – surely Fernandes isn't on the chopping block? However, if Fernandes' comments following the Europa League final are anything to go by, the 30-year-old Portuguese star could be about to end his five-year stint with the Red Devils. "If the club thinks it's time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it's what it is," he said following the Spurs defeat. "Football sometimes is like this. I've always said I will be here until the club says to me that it's time to go." Although Fernandes will turn 31 this coming September, United could still command a significant transfer fee for him due to his impact while wearing the United shirt. The situation seems to be now or never for United to rake in substantial funds from Fernandes' departure, but finding an adequate replacement would be a formidable challenge. Wolves' Matheus Cunha, heavily linked with United, plays in a more advanced role and might set back United by as much as £62.5 million – the sum of his release clause. United's spending power for the coming summer, especially beyond any potential Cunha deal, remains unknown. Odds for Fernandes' next club: Any Saudi Pro League Club - 17/2 Real Madrid - 12/1 Barcelona - 16/1 Paris Saint-Germain - 33/1 Liverpool - 66/1 Man City - 66/1 Any MLS Team - 66/1
