New Delhi: Michael Vaughan, the former England captain, took an indirect swipe at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over the unexpectedly low attendance at the Champions Trophy 2025 opener between New Zealand and Pakistan. This marks the first time in 29 years that PCB is hosting an ICC event.
Vaughan, famous for his sharp and sarcastic posts, took to social media to deliver a scathing remark at the hosts of the Champions Trophy 2025.
Great to see the champions trophy being played in Pakistan .. First major event since 1996 .. Have they forgotten to tell the locals it’s on .. Where is the crowd ?? #ChampionsTrophy2025

“Great to see the champions trophy being played in Pakistan .. First major event since 1996 .. Have they forgotten to tell the locals it’s on .. Where is the crowd ??” posted Vaughan.
The upgraded Karachi Stadium has a seating capacity of 30,000, yet images circulating widely reveal that almost half of the venue remains unfilled.
New Zealand kicked off their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a commanding 60-run victory over defending champions Pakistan at the National Bank Stadium, exposing several vulnerabilities in Pakistan’s batting lineup.
This result not only extended New Zealand’s dominance over Pakistan in the competition, with a 4-0 head-to-head record, but also left the hosts with a difficult road ahead in Group A, where only two teams will progress to the semi-finals.
