Former Man United midfielder Paul Pogba set to end nightmare as transfer return offered
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is on the verge of a return to professional football, after almost two years without a competitive appearance. The France international was initially handed a four-year ban, reduced to 18 months upon appeal, after he was provisionally suspended following a positive drug test. The 32-year-old mutually terminated his Juventus contract in November, and he's been free to return to the pitch since March, where he has been building up his fitness ahead of a prospective move. Pogba has faced numerous links over a free transfer including Turkey, Brazil and a move to the MLS, as well as a possible move back to France with Marseille. However, according to fresh reports, Pogba has been offered a two-year deal at AS Monaco - which will see him return to his native France and make his bow in their national division after breaking through at Old Trafford . Fabrizio Romano reported that negotiations and discussions on the project will continue this weekend in a bid to try to reach an agreement which would see the World Cup winner feature for Adi Hutter's side. In an interview with Ball.LDN, Pogba pinpointed his aspirations to win one more major honour after talking up the quality of Didier Deschamps' France national team. "The French team are exciting and I'm a big fan of them already," he said. "I can't wait to see how they further develop and win a future World Cup - hopefully with me as a teammate." The next edition of the grandest prize in international football will be held across three countries with Canada, Mexico and the United States hosting the competition, in 2026. The possible move to Monaco poses as an opportunity for Pogba to fire his way back into the contention of the national team after last playing for them in March 2022. He is just nine matches away from reaching a century of appearances for the national team, with France facing six more matches in their bid for World Cup qualification, starting at the beginning of September before bringing their campaign to a close at Azerbaijan in mid-November.
