BCCI To Review IPL Celebration Norms After Stampede At Bengaluru Parade Tragedy
@Source: news18.com
The formulation of standard guidelines for IPL victory celebrations will be a key topic of discussion at the BCCI’s 28th Apex Council Meeting on Saturday. This follows the tragic stampede at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium last Wednesday, which resulted in 11 deaths and 56 injuries when approximately 250,000 fans gathered at the stadium and its vicinity to see their favourite stars.
The BCCI acknowledged that the celebrations could have been better managed, and this issue will now be formally addressed. A BCCI source stated that the development of norms for IPL victory celebrations will be discussed.

In addition, finalising the venues for the upcoming India-New Zealand series will be on the agenda. The Council is also expected to review the existing Age Verification Programme, designed to prevent age-fudging in age-group cricket, particularly in the Under-16 (boys) and Under-15 (girls) categories.
Another significant issue to be addressed is the complaint lodged in April 2025 by Karimnagar District Cricket Association president V. Agam Rao. He alleged irregularities in the use of funds allocated for cricket infrastructure development in Telangana districts. BCCI Ombudsman Justice Arun Mishra has directed the Apex Council to take appropriate action, and this matter will be discussed during Saturday’s meeting.
Other agenda items include the BCCI Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials, the tournament allowance policy for BCCI employees, updates on the 2025-26 domestic season, and matters concerning umpire and match referee coaches.
