Former Ireland Under-21 goalkeeper Josh Keeley has revealed how the lure of working with former Manchester United netminder Kevin Pilkington was key to his decision to move to Luton Town. Keeley completed his switch from Tottenham last weekend, for a fee believed to be in the region of €1.2million. His former League of Ireland side St Patrick’s Athletic are set for a six-figure sell-on windfall from the sale, which will see Keeley compete for a starting spot with the Hatters in the coming campaign. Speaking about his move, and the prospect of working with Pilkington, Keeley said: “I’ve spoken to him for the last two days now. “Dean Brill (Tottenham’s academy goalkeeping coach) knows him quite well, he’s a man with a big career behind him and it’s going to be great to learn from him. “I’m really looking forward to it, I can’t wait. I’ve heard a lot of good things and I'm just buzzing to get to know everyone and get to play.” As well as spending eight years at Manchester United, Pilkington also played for Mansfield, Notts County and Luton, among others. Brill, meanwhile, offered a glowing endorsement of his former club Luton when it emerged that Keeley was on his way to Kenilworth Road. “Dean Brill, my goalie coach, he persuaded me to come,” said Keeley (22), who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Leyton Orient last year. “It (leaving Tottenham) was easy and it wasn’t. I went there when I was 19-years-old. It was my first taste of moving abroad and getting away from my family. “I grew very close to a lot of the players and a lot of the staff there. They took me in, I was a young boy coming over to a new country. They took me under their wing. “I learned so, so much and I'll be forever grateful for them. But there always comes a time in your career when you’ve got to move on and I felt now was the time and it’s now time to kick on.“ Get the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email.
