Gabby Logan claims 'people didn't like' her on Strictly as she addresses unexpected move

Gabby Logan has reflected on her experience on Strictly Come Dancing , where she performed with the show's former professional dancer James Jordan in 2007. While the BBC competition might simply be a contest for some participants, the broadcaster described it as a "life-changing" and "sobering" ordeal for her personally. In the same year of her competing, her husband Kenny Logan was also fighting for the Glitterball trophy, with the help of James' wife Ola Jordan. Looking back on her stint on the programme, the 52-year-old said she had bittersweet feelings towards the show. "I had an amazing experience on Strictly, I was only on it for a few weeks but I had an amazing experience, but also, a kind of life-changing experience in many ways," she shared. "[It] sounds a bit dramatic, and you hear people going 'Strictly changed my life', but this wasn't in a good way." Gabby continued to emphasise that while she "adored" the programme, she struggled with her elimination and wondered why viewers didn't connect with her. "When you get voted out of Strictly, it's so shocking, because you go in every week starting to work on your following week's dance and you don't expect to go home," she revealed. Reflecting on the moment she was eliminated, Gabby noted that she had achieved decent scores at the time, and wasn't at the bottom of the leaderboard, yet still ended up in the dance-off with Penny Lancaster. After the judges chose to save Rod Stewart's wife over her, the presenter's journey came to an end in week four. Speaking on the Gold Minds podcast with Jessica Ennis, she continued: "It was the fact that obviously people didn't vote for me and it sounds a bit pathetic, but you realise when it's a reality show that it's about whether people like you, and I was very much aware that people didn't like me. "I was kind of like they didn't like me enough to vote for me." Gabby said that while James attempted to comfort her by insisting it was just a television programme, she couldn't shake off feeling "upset" about the situation. "It was a very sobering kind of experience because in the days afterwards, not only was I dreadfully missing the dancing, but also realising I kind of felt like oh what was it about me that people didn't relate to," she added. The broadcaster went on to say that after she was voted off, she read that her apparent overly competitive nature was one of the factors behind her elimination. Moreover, her departure happened while her husband remained in the competition thanks to public support, despite her insisting he was "rubbish" at dancing. The former rugby legend frequently found himself in the bottom two, though the judges repeatedly saved him until his luck finally ran out before the quarter-finals. Gabby explained that once he understood how devastated she felt about her elimination, he enquired whether she could swap places with him, but this of course wasn't permitted. The series was later won by Alesha Dixon, who subsequently replaced Arlene Phillips as a panellist on the programme two years afterwards. In the coming weeks, the BBC will begin to unveil the fresh batch of celebrities hoping to win the coveted Glitterball trophy. The 2025 series of Strictly Come Dancing is anticipated to make its return to our screens in September. Gabby is fronting coverage for this year's Women's UEFA Euro 2025 final, which begins from 4pm on BBC One.
