Visakhapatnam: The city’s streets will be witnessing an eruption of creativity as themed idols take centre stage for the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations on August 27.From towering installations to intimate home displays, the festival has adapted itself to native culture in unprecedented ways. Smaller pandals are stealing the spotlight with their imaginatively themed displays. One of the themes is the RCB Ganesha commemorating the cricket team's long-awaited trophy victory after 18 years.Political themes are attempted at too, with representations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a striking Sindhoor war theme alongside an image of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. The creative interpretations extend beyond politics and sports, featuring missile-shaped Ganeshas, schoolboy-themed displays, and even gym enthusiast versions. The online marketplace has emerged as a game-changer for this year's festivities, with e-commerce platforms capitalizing on the growing demand for sustainable options. These digital vendors are offering comprehensive eco-friendly Ganesha kits containing grass, turmeric (haldi), clay and flowers, along with traditional offerings like Modak, Ladoo and decorative flowers.A special feature of these online offerings is the simplified immersion process. The eco-friendly idols can be dissolved at home with water, and when the resulting mixture is disposed of in soil, it serves as natural fertilizer for plants.Social media platforms are also contributing to the festive fervour, with AI-generated reels depicting Lord Ganesh packing his celestial robes and arriving on Earth with his carrier 'Mooshik' to participate in the celebrations. This adds a modern digital dimension to ancient traditions. While themed displays capture one’s imagination, the city's major installations continue to awe with their scale, sweep and artistry. At Gajuwaka, the 111-foot-tall 'Sri Sundara Vastra Maha Ganapati' is being adorned with sarees by artists from Chirala."About 26 artists from Chirala have teamed up for shaping the planet-friendly idol. Post the celebrations, the sarees will be given away to the devotees and donors," stated K Ganesh of SV Entertainments. At RK Beach, a 2,000-kg silver Ganesh idol at APIIC Grounds, designed as a replica of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam temple, is being given final touches by Seerapu Kanakaraju of Youth Icon. The installation includes a flower show and offers online puja registration through www.youthicon.ganesh.com.The city administration has put in place comprehensive safety protocols for the festivities. Police have mandated that pandal organisers ensure certified electrical installations and conduct immersions only at designated locations.
