Six teams – NIMADOY, Southern, Homeboys, POMWEST, MOMASE, and AROB – competed fiercely in soccer, rugby, and volleyball to conclude the semester’s sporting events ahead of next week’s examinations.
GTC SRC President Enoch Woni highlighted that the competition commenced in the third week of the first semester, culminating in today’s grand finale. He expressed his sincere gratitude to East New Britain Provincial Governor Michael Marum for his generous sponsorship, which provided trophies and medals for the winning teams.
“We are incredibly privileged and deeply appreciate Governor Marum’s support of our grand final today,” stated Mr. Woni, acknowledging a student’s initiative in securing the sponsorship.
East New Britain Provincial Sports Coordinator Benjamin Hekahu commended the GTC SRC for organizing the tournament. He emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to sports as a tool for promoting physical and social well-being among students and contributing to minimizing law and order issues within communities.
“Through the priorities in the province that we are currently using, sports is one of the tools where we are trying to use to minimize law and order situations in our communities,” Mr. Hekahu affirmed.
The grand final event marks the successful conclusion of the GTC SRC’s sporting calendar for the semester, fostering camaraderie and healthy competition among the students.
