Gayle King appeared to take a swipe at Jeff Bezos just days before she is due to board his Blue Origin spaceship, revealing that she has questioned some of his recent headline-making decisions. The CBS Mornings anchor, 70, is amongst the all-female crew headed on New Shepard's NS-31 11th human flight on April 14 alongside Lauren Sanchez, 55, and singer Katy Perry, 40. Ahead of the flight, Gayle sat down with CBS Mornings colleague Vlad Duthiers where she was asked what she would say to fierce critics who might see the flight as an ad for billionaire Bezos, 61, and his company. 'Listen, it is troubling for me too,' she began. 'There have been some questions and some decisions that he has made that I've actually gone, "huh?" 'But I think in this particular case, I think this is so much bigger than one man and one company.' Gayle added: 'I've chosen to separate the two. It's not a zero-sum game. 'You can do this one the one hand, and this on the other hand. And both things can be true.' Billionaire Amazon founder Bezos has ignited controversy in recent weeks, in part due to his plans to overhaul the Washington Post's Opinion page to focus solely on support for, 'personal liberties and free markets.' The controversial move, announced in February, was immediately met with scores of readers cancelling their subscription in protest as well as a spate of resignations. 'We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets,' Bezos said at the time. 'We'll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others. 'There was a time when a newspaper, especially one that was a local monopoly, might have seen it as a service to bring to the reader's doorstep every morning a broad-based opinion section that sought to cover all views. Today, the internet does that job.' While Gayle's decision to accept Bezos and Sanchez's invitation to space immediately triggered a debate over journalistic integrity, a reputation expert told DailyMail.com that the divisive move will not be the scandal that ends her glistening career. Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, Eric Schiffer said: 'Many say King's credibility hinges on her ability to maintain objectivity and that her space adventure kills public trust. 'But many forget journalists receive lavish, exclusive access — from the Oscars and Olympics to royal weddings and rocket launches — without losing credibility. In fact, special treatment is viewed as integral to the job, rarely raising concerns about their objectivity. 'While she may not be reporting in an official capacity for CBS, she may chronicle it in the future. 'Sometimes journalists are granted exclusive access to private events, confidential briefings, or behind-the-scenes experiences without immediate reporting — storing observations for future context or deeper storytelling. 'These moments, though often undisclosed initially, can shape insights years later without necessarily compromising journalistic objectivity.' Earlier this week, Gayle told DailyMail.com that she will be boarding the space flight with a special collection of stuffed animals for comfort. She shared: 'I am not getting my bag together, because what do you put in a bag to go to space? 'So, I asked my daughter and my favorite grandson, "could you pick out your favorite stuffed animals for me to take into space and keep me company?" So, he's looking.' Gayle's daughter Kirby Bumpus welcomed her son Luca Lynn Miller in 2021, making Gayle a grandmother for the first time. Kirby became a mother again last May, when she welcomed daughter Grayson with her husband Virgil Miller. Recently, Gayle opened up about her fear and nervousness surrounding the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. In an interview for ELLE magazine's April digital issue, she said of receiving the invitation from Lauren: 'I had a lot of trepidation — I still do. 'But I also know it's very interesting to be terrified and excited at the same time.' The seasoned journalist continued: 'I haven't felt like this since childbirth, really. Because I knew childbirth was going to hurt. 'But it's also stepping out of your comfort zone.
