A Canadian bride has gained viral attention after she made an unusual realization about her wedding.Megan Thompson, 24, from Ontario, Canada, shared a TikTok clip where she confessed to having a "very Millennial-coded wedding," despite herself being Generation Z.The video (@mooganhoom), which has gained over 11.8 million views and more than 1.4 million likes, revealed the classic millennial wedding trends at Thompson's 2022 wedding, from rustic decor to personalized details."Didn't have Mason jars tho so it couldn't really be that bad, right?" she joked in the caption. Her wedding featured handwritten chalk signs, reclaimed wooden decor, centerpieces on cut wood with hurricane candle jars, and even a Star Wars-inspired photo shoot. In one standout moment, she and the groomsmen posed for a playful shot where she used "the Force" to lift them—a trend often seen in millennial wedding photography."I realized it last week when I saw someone's video about unique things they had at their Gen Z wedding, and it made me realize I didn't have a whole lot of that," Thompson told Newsweek. "In fact, it was the opposite, and I had a whole lot of seemingly millennial-inspired things at my wedding."A Nod to Millennial Wedding TrendsSo-called millennial wedding aesthetics were particularly popular in the mid-to-late 2000s and early 2010s, characterized by a mix of rustic charm and personal touches. Popular elements included barn and vineyard venues, fairy lights, handwritten signage, and eco-friendly decorations such as reclaimed wood and Mason jars. Custom details, such as personalized drinks and nods to the couple's favorite TV or movies were also popular. As Thompson scrolled through her wedding album, the realization of her wedding's millennial aesthetic became even clearer."The wood accents on various things, the cursive font on the welcome sign, posing with my alternative choice in footwear—things like that," Thompson said. "I don't regret anything about that day."Of course, there are things looking back that I would change if I was to plan it again today because I've grown as a person and my tastes have changed, but that day went exactly to plan, and I loved every minute of it."Internet Viewers React"Are you sure you're Gen Z?" asked TikTok user Lénaïg, while Jdebmdmxksmxnc joked: "This isn't just millennial, this is Christian girl autumn millennial."Others couldn't believe they were looking at a recent wedding. Brynn said: "Girl what year did u get married."While lots of viewers said they quite liked all of the details, there was one thing that put many off—a shot where Thompson's new husband put crocs on her feet."The crocs were an absolute crime!" posted Emchi04, while Marissa Rose commented: "The crocs and the Star Wars pose put it over the top.""Girl not the crocs," added Oliver, while the freedom pines wrote: "Everything was beautiful except crocs.""The reaction about the Crocs is the most surprising thing to me," Thompson said. "Like I get it, people think they're ugly gardening shoes, but life really isn't that serious."
