Ger Manley slams 'shocking' refereeing after Cork’s camogie final defeat

Clearly disgusted by both decisions, his main gripe was the blatant push on goalkeeper Amy Lee 21 minutes in. Collecting a pass from Laura Treacy, Lee was pushed on the back by Caoimhe Kelly. No free was given, possession spilled loose, with Kelly gathering and somehow pointing with an open goal in front of her. The point pushed Galway 1-6 to 0-5 clear. “To give Galway their credit, I thought they were street-smart. But the decisions that went against us were very disappointing. It's not sour grapes really, I just thought the referee had a very poor match,” Manley began. “I don't like knocking refs, but I thought he had a very poor game. I know it's a tough game but some of the decisions that went against us, it seemed to be one rule for one team and another rule for the next. We're not a dirty team and neither are Galway really. They're physical. “But Amy Lee, we all saw it on the big screen, the push in the back. We were beaten by a point. Clodagh Finn got fouled near the end, a blatant push again. The sending-off had a huge bearing but we probably played better with 14 players. It's very tough on Hannah.” The Amy Lee push was revisited a second time further on in the post-match conversation with the Cork boss. “In a tight game like that, small things win matches. Anyone who saw the push on Amy Lee, we'd nearly need to be looking for VAR. If that was in a soccer match, it would have been cancelled. “We have honest players, and she didn't dive. She was blatantly pushed. Is it sour grapes? I suppose there's a small bit of it there. We're all disappointed when we lose. I look at every reason.” He also looked at Hannah Looney’s straight red card in first-half injury time. It was another decision he took issue with, albeit not as forcefully as the grievances aired above. “The sending-off was very harsh. I thought it was just physical contact. It was in front of me, but I'd like to see it again. But I thought Justin had a shocking game as a referee. The last one, the one that won the game (foul on Carrie Dolan), was a dive. “Look, Galway deserved it. I'm not taking away from them. They had huge hunger, huge everything. I was so proud of our girls because the second half was unbelievable. I thought we were the better team in the second half. Small things win matches. Just very disappointed.” Manley, who launched a stout defence of his dismissed midfielder, said Looney was understandably “very upset”. “It was a funny one. From where I was, I thought she came across and she sort of went into her alright a bit. But he said she struck, and I think Thompson got one for an elbow. Jesus, I couldn't see it. I just could not see it. “I didn't see the last free, I wasn't up on top of it, but seemingly it was very harsh as well. It was a brilliant free to win a match. Carrie Dolan is a brilliant free-taker. That's why we're very disciplined on our frees because Carrie can score a free from anywhere inside 65 yards. But we felt it was a harsh free. A very harsh free.” The Cork manager, who reckoned another minute of stoppages should have been played, revealed top-scorer Amy O’Connor tore her hamstring last week and wasn’t at full tilt as a consequence.
