Gethin Jones is a familiar face in homes across the UK, thanks to his role as host of BBC's Morning Live every weekday morning. The presenter began his career as a bank clerk before making the switch to television presenting on Welsh language channel S4C. He then shot to national fame as a Blue Peter presenter, where he took on challenges such as flying with the Red Arrows, learning to race like a jockey, and surviving the Bolivian jungle. These experiences are certainly coming in handy as he takes on a 24-hour skating challenge for Comic Relief alongside his Morning Live co-star Helen Skelton. In 2007, Gethin, now 47, joined the Strictly Come Dancing line-up and made it to the semi-finals with professional dancer Camilla Dallerup. Over the years, he's hosted a variety of shows, including This Morning and The One Show, and even made an appearance as a Cyberman in an episode of Doctor Who. For the past five years, he's been a co-presenter on BBC's Morning Live, sharing hosting duties with Helen and Michelle Ackerley. But let's take a peek into his life away from the cameras, which includes a high-profile split with his famous fiancée, a near-death experience, and confessions about his love life, including accusations of catfishing, reports Wales Online, reports Surrey Live. Gethin's romantic journey crossed paths with Katherine Jenkins, a fellow Welsh celebrity, on the set of Strictly, where he was a competitor, and she was a guest performer. Their meeting blossomed into an engagement by February 2011. However, by the end of that year, they had decided to part ways, taking to Twitter to share their mutual heartache. After the split, Katherine poured her heart out about her emotional state during her tour, describing herself as "in pieces" and a "total mess". Reflecting on that period, Gethin opened up in 2023 about battling what he terms a "bad bout of depression" following the breakup. In a candid conversation on The Mirror's Outdoors in Mind podcast with Tom Bryant, he delved into the trials he faced when the relationship unexpectedly ended. One poignant moment stands out: "I recall being at BBC Radio 5Live and stepping into the restroom at 5.30am thinking, 'Alright, come on, focus for the next three hours, and then you can return to feeling sad.' I certainly experienced a severe bout of depression during that time." In the years that followed, Katherine transitioned into a new chapter, tying the knot with American director Andrew Levitas and starting a family with two children. In a separate reveal, Gethin shared about facing a life-threatening situation while filming risky segments for Blue Peter. Gethin Jones, the affable TV presenter, has shared some hair-raising tales from his time filming the BBC series, including a close call on a mountain and a terrifying encounter with a crocodile. In a candid chat with The Times, Gethin recalled: "Some of the most memorable trips during my time on the show were when I got to ride bareback with cowboys in El Paso, Texas, and when I nearly died while scaling the Spitzkoppe peaks in Namibia." He elaborated on the perilous mountain climb, saying: "The first attempt went fine, but the producer asked me to do it again so they could film a wide shot and I lost my bearings and got into difficulties because of how windy it was." Gethin also showed off a souvenir from another adventure - a scar on his ankle courtesy of an alligator in a Louisiana swamp. "I also have a scar on my ankle from when an alligator attacked me in a Louisiana swamp. Apparently, the alligator wasn't hungry, otherwise I wouldn't have survived," he quipped. In a more lighthearted revelation, Gethin confessed to being booted off a dating app due to a case of mistaken identity. On the podcast Restless Natives, he regaled hosts Martin Compston and Gordon Smart with the tale of how he was kicked off Hinge not once, but twice, after multiple women reported him for catfishing. Gethin chuckled: "I had been kicked off Hinge twice in eight hours for violating the code of conduct. And what I think it was, was 300 women had reported me for catfishing, which - when you are on Morning Live, I should have known better, to not verify my account." In a hilarious twist, he shared his slightly awkward attempt to get in touch with the dating app Hinge. Recounting his experience, he said: "But the moment I had to write to Hinge: 'Dear Hinge', Thursday night at home, writing to an online dating app: 'Hi, it's Gethin here. I'm 46. Just wondering if I could get my money back, it's not really working'. I got some food and then I came back and I thought to myself, what am I doing with my life?"
