A golf fan hit a bogey after consuming a little too much alcohol while watching Rory McIlroy claim the Masters in his local bar. John Ward appeared at Letterkenny District Court after being charged with a public order offence. Ward was charged with the Public Order offence following an incident on Sunday night last, April 13th, at Park View Drive, Gortlee in Letterkenny. He was charged that he did use or engage in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace or being reckless as to whether a breach of the peace might have been occasioned. The charge is Contrary to section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994 as amended by Section 22 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2008 Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that Ward, aged 24, of Glen View Park, Ash Lane in Sligo, was outside a house and was shouting and abusing members of the public before being arrested by Gardai. The court was told that Ward has no previous convictions. His solicitor, Mr Rory O’Brien, said the accused man had been watching the golf with his father earlier in the evening in a local bar as it was his father’s birthday. Judge Eiteain Cunningham remarked that Ward had missed the final rounds of the golf. Mr O’Brien replied that his client had indeed missed history being made and that his behaviour was not very becoming of a golf fan. Judge Cunningham said she would strike the matter out if Ward donated €200 to the Little Blue Heroes fund. The cash was handed into court a short time later.
