AFL Tassie stadium plans hang in the balance
Tasmania’s Liberal minority premier has visited the state’s governor to request a snap election, days after losing a no-confidence motion in parliament amid fallout over plans for a $945 million stadium in Hobart, a condition of the Tasmania Devils entering the AFL in 2028.
Jeremy Rockliff has refused to resign since losing the motion, put forward by Labor last week and supported by the Greens and three crossbench MPs. Just before 6pm on Tuesday he went to see the governor, Barbara Baker, after Parliament reconvened to pass an emergency budget supply bill.

Hospital scans bring good news for sore Sun
Gold Coast are breathing a sigh of relief after captain Noah Anderson avoided injury despite a heavy collision with Geelong star Tom Stewart.
Suns skipper Anderson was taken to the hospital for scans on his chest region after a crunching bump from Stewart in the fourth quarter of the Cats’ 24-point win.
The midfielder was cleared of concussion, but eventually taken to the change rooms after being assessed by medical staff.
His visit to the hospital was precautionary, with Gold Coast confirming on Tuesday that scans had cleared him of injury.
Anderson is expected to be able to play against GWS in round 15 after the club’s bye this weekend.
Stewart did not receive a ban for the incident, given the match review officer did not view the contact as high.
Good evening and welcome
It’s Australian Football Hall of Fame night for another year. There’ll be a number of inductees unveiled tonight as the AFL officially recognises some of the greats of the game.
Please enjoy our coverage.
