Hardik Pandya Escapes Major Setback, BCCI's Bold Move Brings Relief To Mumbai Indians After Shocking Start
@Source: timesnownews.com
Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya was slapped with a fine of INR 12 lakh for slow over-rate during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against the Gujarat Titans (GT). MI have looked off-colour in IPL 2025 so far, losing back-to-back matches to CSK and GT, respectively. The team has been let down by the batters, who've struggled to bat well and put the opposition under pressure. The team could only muster 155-9 against CSK and scored 160-6 in a chase of 197 against GT. Hardik Pandya missed the team's first match due to the ban that was imposed on him for slow over-rate during MI's last league game in IPL 2024. He returned to the team for the clash against GT but getting the overs done in time was again an issue. Will Hardik Pandya Be Banned Again?Fortunately for Hardik Pandya, he won't be banned for slow over-rate in IPL 2025 as the BCCI scrapped the rule of captains getting banned for slow over-rate. Earlier, a captain faced a one-match suspension and a fine of Rs 30 lakhs for a third offence of slow over-rate; however, the players will now be handed demerit points for their offence, but the match ban is out of equation. "A Level 1 offence will lead to deduction of 25 to 75 percent match fees with demerit points which will be calculated for next three years. Level 2 offence if serious will result in four demerit points,” a BCCI source said, as quoted by PTI. "For every four demerit points accumulated, the match referee can impose a penalty, either in the form of a 100 percent fine or additional demerit points. These demerit points could convert into a match ban in the future but for slow overrate there won't be a match ban," the BCCI source added. Meanwhile, with two defeats in two games, MI are struggling at the bottom of the points table and need to string together a few wins to get their campaign back on track. MI will face KKR at home on March 31.
