Kevin Smith is getting ready to officially welcome a son-in-law to the family.
The New Jersey director’s daughter, actor Harley Quinn Smith, just announced her engagement to boyfriend Austin Zajur.
Zajur, who is also an actor, starred in Smith’s most recent Jersey-set film, “The 4:30 Movie,” in a role inspired by the life of young Smith growing up in Highlands.
“WE’RE MOTHERF---IN ENGAGED!!!!!!!!!“ Harley Quinn Smith posted on Instagram Sunday night. ”And it happened at the @farmsanctuary next to Dixon the cow. I’m so in love with you Austin Zajur.”
Smith, 25, shared photos of the couple’s happy day and Zajur’s proposal at the Los Angeles animal sanctuary, with Dixon featuring prominently in the pictures. (See post below.)
She has had starring roles in her father’s films, including “Yoga Hosers” and “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,” and appeared in many more over the years.
Harley Quinn Smith also had a small role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and starred in the Freeform series “Cruel Summer.” She also Queen Amelia in Smith’s animated Netflix series “Masters of the Universe: Revelation.”
Smith, who grew up in Los Angeles, was born in Red Bank to Kevin Smith and Jennifer Schwalbach Smith.
“Austin surprised the sh-- out of my only begotten daughter when he dropped to one knee and popped the question right there at one of Harley’s favorite places on earth!” Kevin Smith said on Facebook.
“When @jenschwalbach and I found out, we just about jumped over the moon with joy!”
Kevin Smith, 53, and Zajur, 29, made “The 4:30 Movie” at the SModcastle Cinemas theater the director co-owns in Atlantic Highlands, which was the same Atlantic Cinemas movie theater Smith attended as a child.
Zajur, who plays lead character Brian David, and his co-stars, including Ken Jeong, were at the theater for the premiere of the movie in August.
Harley Quinn Smith, who also appeared in the film (in a movie trailer within the movie), has been dating Zajur since 2019.
Zajur, who grew up in Virginia, also had a role in Kevin Smith’s Jersey-filmed movie “Clerks III” as the nonverbal character Blockchain Coltrane, another film in which his future wife appeared.
Zajur’s other films include Charlie Day’s “Fool’s Paradise” (2023).
Harley Quinn, who is a vegan, encouraged her father to embrace a vegan diet, which helped him lose more than 50 pounds after he suffered a near-fatal “widowmaker” heart attack in 2018.
This isn’t the first time the Jersey director has called Zajur a “son-in” something.
In 2020, Harley Quinn, her parents and Zajur participated in a TBS game show called “Celebrity Show-Off” in which they had to make a sitcom called “Son-in-Lockdown.” At the time, during the early COVID-19 pandemic, both Austin and Harley Quinn lived with her parents.
