Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur entered his name in the history books on Saturday (July 13) by breaking former captain Mithali Raj’s record of making the most appearances for India in international cricket.
During her 23-year-long international career, Mithali played a total of 333 matches for India. She featured in 12 Tests, 232 ODIs, and 89 T20Is for Women in Blue.

On the other hand, since making her debut against Pakistan during an ODI match played in Bowral on March 7, 2009, Harman has played a total of 334 matches. She made her 334th appearance as an India player against England in Birmingham on Saturday (July 12).
Harman has played six Tests, 146 ODIs, and 182 T20Is so far. The Punjab-based cricketer is the most capped player in the history of women’s T20Is.
Under her leadership, for the first time ever, India managed to win a T20I series in England this month. In the five-match T20I series played between India and England, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side managed to get the better of the hosts with a scoreline of 3-2.
India won the first T20I played in Nottingham by 97 runs on June 28. However, in that match, Harman didn’t feature as a precautionary measure following a head injury sustained during the T20 warm-up match played against ECB Select XI.
She returned for the second match in Bristol and led Women in Blue to a 24-run win. In the third T20I played at The Oval on July 4, England defeated India by six runs to keep the series alive, but India sealed the deal in Manchester on July 9 by securing a six-wicket win over the Tammy Beaumont-led side.
England beat India by 5 wickets
In the fifth and final T20I of the bilateral series played on Saturday, after being invited to bat first by Tammy, India posted a total of 167 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Opener Shafali Verma scored 75 runs from 41 balls, and wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh added 24 runs from 16 balls to India’s total.
In reply, England chased down the 168-run target for the loss of five wickets on the last ball of the match. Danielle Wyatt-Hodge top-scored by making 56 runs from 37 balls, and her opening partner Sophia Dunkley scored 46 runs from 30 balls.
