THE CONSUMER WATCHDOG is cracking down on commercial posts by online influencers that are not clearly labelled as ads.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland published guidance on influencer marketing in October 2023.

The agencies instructed influencers to use the hashtag #Ad for sponsored social media posts, including ‘gifted’ or their own-brand products.
Yesterday, the CCPC said it had served rugby star Brian O’Driscoll with a compliance order in relation to these guidelines.
So today we’re asking: Have you ever bought something advertised by an influencer?
Poll Results:
I would never buy something from an influencer advertisment (291)
I probably have without realising an influencer mentioned it (54)
I have been influenced once or twice (44)
Sometimes I do, but I do my own research before purchasing (29)
I often buy products recommended by influencers (21)
