Four people were taken to hospital – one with serious injuries - following a multi-vehicle crash on the A55 in Flintshire yesterday afternoon (Saturday, August 9). A 58-year-old man was arrested and North Wales Police (NWP) are now appealing for dashcam footage.
The force was alerted to the incident near Pentre Halkyn at 3.21pm. An artic lorry travelling in the eastbound carriageway had collided with two vehicles travelling in the opposite carriageway.
A major incident was declared and a Wales Air Ambulance was called from Welshpool. This airlifted one person across the border to Royal Stoke University Hospital.
Another was taken to Stoke in a land ambulance. Two more were taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan, by ambulance.
The 58-year-old lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation whilst inquiries continue.
The A55 remained closed in both directions for several hours while officers from the NWP Forensic Collision Investigation Unit carried out initial investigations. The dual carriageway was finally opened just before midnight but only for one lane in both directions, to allow barrier repairs to take place.
