Watoto Church ministries’ team leader Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo addressed the media flanked by Mark Namanya (UGC official), Abbey Bagalana (representing Uganda Professional Golfers Association) as well as the different representatives of the supportive sponsors and partners At Watoto Church, we believe in being more than a place of worship. We are a movement of hope, healing and transformation. For over 30 years, Watoto has cared for nearly 6000 vulnerable children and empowered over 7500 women in our communities. Currently, we are supporting 1125 vulnerable mothers in our neighbourhoods. Our goal is to empower them to become leaders who will participate in developing their communities. The Watoto golf tournament is more than a sporting event; it is a powerful expression of our unwavering commitment to care for the most vulnerable in our underserved communities. The game of game is a reflection of life, personal triumph. Golf is a game of life which can become a platform to tell a deeper story, a story of compassion, restoration and hope. Sports meet purpose and compassion meets excellence. Pastor Julius Rwotlonyo, Watoto Church ministries team leader Uganda Golf Clubis very honored to have Watoto Church here. As a club, we are super excited to be part. All golfers are factored in including the professionals for the very first time. We are looking forward to see you on the day of the tournament. Mark Namanya, Uganda Golf Club official The tournament was also played last year with over 200 players raising Ug.Shs 89,400,000. This money was used to skill young adults by resourcing Watoto Hope Vocational and Technical Institute to purchase equipment for the training of students in the ICT, Journalism and Media, carpentry and joinery as well as automotive and mechanics departments. Betty Tumushabe, a mother of two whose husband died of HIV/AIDS praised Watoto ministries for the support. “From stigma, being homless and hopeless, I got assistance from the Watoto Ministries. I am now a community worker with a home with some income project” Tumushabe recollected. This year round, the theme will rotate around empowering the vulnerable mothers to improve their businesses in the areas of Kampala, Gulu and South Sudan. A number of supportive partners have joined hands as Opportunity Bank, Equity Bank, East African Development Bank, Uganda Airlines, Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA), Acacia Place Limited and Akay Group of Companies, Uganda Golf Club, among others. “We believe in uplifting communities. Up scaling the women. Mothers face massive challenges and need uplifting. Uganda Airlines believes in the dignity of women.” Sandra Namutebi, Marketing Director Uganda Airlines. The professionals will play 54 holes from the 7th to 9th August 2025 for Ug.Shs 12,000,000 to be shared among those who make the cut.
