Parts of Spain are set for a spring sizzler this weekend following snow and rain chaos. Heat will return to large parts of Spain this weekend, with forecasts predicting highs of up to 26C in some areas, including Malaga. Parts of Spain have recently experienced heavy rain and storms, but this weekend, many popular destinations will see the return of sunny and warm weather. According to Aemet, Spain's weather forecaster, destinations such as Seville will have highs of 24C in the coming days. Marbella and Malaga will see up to 26C, whilst on the Atlantic coast of Cadiz and Huelva will see lower maximums of 22C and 24C. Parts of the Canary Islands will see cooler temperatures than other parts of Spain, including 22C in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, which will reach up to 23C. This week some Spanish destinations such as Costa del Sol saw large hailstones the size of golf balls raining down. Weather officials also confirmed that the rain gauge at Malaga Airport recorded this March as the second wettest since records began in 1943. On Tuesday, a yellow weather alert for Costa del Sol gave way to conditions that seemed more fitting for the Arctic than the typically warm Mediterranean climate. In Alhaurín, just 25 minutes north of La Cala de Mijas, nestled between Marbella and Fuengirola, locals sought shelter and motorists were forced to stop, as the storm approached at 4 pm. British tourist John Wells said: "I had friends who were here a couple of weeks ago on holiday and they used their umbrellas most days. People we’ve spoken to that live here said they can’t remember it being this bad with the rain. The beaches look a bit of a mess so I imagine they’ll have their work cut out getting them ready for Easter." In addition, in Majorca there has been a spell of poor weather recently. This is set to continue broadly until the end of April. The first nine days of the month saw as much rainfall as Spain usually experiences in an entire month. With spring officially starting on March 20 , the dreary weather has dampened the start of Majorca's peak season. María José Guerrero, delegate for Aemet in the Balearics , also predicted that the dismal weather will persist for the next three weeks. According to Mr Guerrero, the forecasts "indicate signs of rain", but he advises taking this "with great caution", suggesting there may be occasional sunny spells.
