Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Thursday arrested two individuals for allegedly cheating over 41 people across Telangana, by luring them into investing in a dairy farming venture and swindling nearly Rs.9 crore. The accused, identified as Vemula Subba Rao and Vemula Kumari, both residents of Kokapet in Gandipet, collected the money from the victims by promising high returns through their firm Kondapalli Dairy Farm Pvt Ltd, Nagireddyguda, Aziznagar, Moinabad. The accused began their operations in June 2022 by advertising their business offers in newspapers. The advertisements called for “Good Investors” for a “well-running dairy farm”, claiming “last 16 years monthly guarantee income is earned”. The ad also consisted of a phone number apparently belonging to a person called Reddappa.Interested individuals, who reached out to the number, were responded to by another person who convinced them about the profitability of the dairy farm business, promising monthly returns ranging between Rs.2 to Rs.5 lakh. To gain the investors’ confidence, the accused invited them to visit the dairy farm where they showcased a setup including cattle sheds, buffaloes, cows, and a milk processing unit. The accused claimed they had been earning significant profits and needed genuine investors to expand their operations further. Convinced by the elaborate display and false assurances, many victims invested large sums. After the scam was reported, a case was registered under Cr.No. 22/2025, Sections 316(2), 318(4), and 61(2) of the BNS. Further investigation into the incident is underway. The Cyberabad EOW police have urged the public to exercise caution and avoid falling prey to fraudulent investment schemes that promise quick and unrealistic returns.Citizens are advised to report any suspicious investment offers or business schemes to their nearest police station.
