I saw derby day aggro that revealed Manchester United priority this week

The spoils were shared at OId Trafford as the Manchester derby ended goalless in a forgettable contest in the spring sunshine. Manchester United had the better chances and Joshua Zirkzee went closest of all, forcing Ederson into a sharp save in the second half. Manuel Ugarte fizzed a volley wide and Mason Mount had a shot blocked. City had maybe edged the first half but they offered little after the break, with Omar Marmoush's 30-yarder that stung the palms of Andre Onana the closest they went. It was a derby typical of a season in which both teams have failed to deliver. United's focus will now turn to the Europa League quarter-final against Lyon on Thursday. A clash to sum up 'derby day' There was a moment early in the second half when the temperature on the pitch threatened to finally rise above the pleasant spring temperatures in Manchester. But that the customary derby day argy-bargy even failed to catch fire summed up a contest that just drifted along for most of it. Ugarte was annoyed at being tripped by Ruben Dias and tried to confront the City centre-back, who just laughed it off. Ugarte continued to try and make an issue of it without really putting much aggression into it. Bernardo Silva shoved him away and Leny Yoro appeared on the scene to push the City midfielder away. Then it was over, before it had even begun. A sleepy derby in the sunshine between two limited teams got the aggro it deserved. For United, it also summed up where their priorities lie this week. If the same happens in Lyon, you can be sure many more of Ugarte's teammates will respond to the rallying cry. Fernandes' set-piece practice United have practiced defensive set-pieces during the warm-up since Amorim's arrival and Sunday was no different. Bruno Fernandes took it upon himself to send in two corners from both sides in front of the Stretford End, before then sending in a free-kick from a narrow angle down the right and one from a deeper position on the right. It's a drill that usually focuses on sharpening up the defence, with the central defenders given little competition for the ball, but it also presents Fernandes with the chance to get his eye in. Set-pieces are a big thing for Carlos Fernandes and an important route to goal for United. De Bruyne respect Kevin De Bruyne played the full game after confirming on Friday he was leaving Manchester City after a decade of service, but a couple of United players had a word with him after the final whistle. Mason Mount shook hands with De Bruyne and then pulled him in for a longer chat, finishing with a pat on the chest. Fernandes and De Bruyne then wrapped arms over each other's shoulders as they shared a few words. A touch of class It was an unforgettable derby day for seven-year-old Bobby Moore from Belfast, who was United's mascot for the day at Old Trafford , becoming the first wheelchair or powerchair using mascot for the club. United skipper Fernandes saw a video of Bobby celebrating his goal in the Manchester derby at the Etihad in December and was touched by it. He invited him to Carrington on Friday to spend the day at the training ground and then lead the teams out on Sunday. A touch of class.
