'I was first on world's biggest cruise ship that's giant city with epic waterpark'
@Source: dailystar.co.uk
The world's largest and newest cruise ship embarked on its inaugural passenger journey - and I was fortunate enough to be aboard. The Star of the Seas is a colossal floating metropolis, boasting 20 decks packed with top-tier attractions for all ages, including a water park, swimming pools, crazy golf, theatres, an ice skating rink, 14 shops and 40 bars and restaurants. Its sheer size can feel quite overwhelming, as it takes a few days to navigate your way around this behemoth that set sail from Port Canaveral, Florida, on Wednesday evening. However, after exploring the decks, here are some highlights of the Royal Caribbean ship you won't want to miss. Thrill Island is the largest waterpark at sea, featuring SIX record-breaking water slides. The largest slide is not for the faint-hearted but is a must-try for thrill-seekers. One of its most daring features is Crown's Edge, part skywalk and part ride, suspended 154ft above the ocean. Adrenaline junkies traverse a hanging walkway and experience a controlled freefall before zipping down a zipline to the deck below. It's designed to challenge the courage of the thrill-seeker - and it certainly does just that. If you're in the mood for a bit of surfing, there's no need to disembark. The Flow-rider is a wave machine that lets you go "boogie boarding" and mimic real Surfing USA. Astonishingly, 30,000 gallons of water per minute rush beneath the rider at 30mph, creating a five-foot wave. Just be mindful of the height restrictions: 4ft 10in for stand-up surfing or 4ft 4in for boogie boarding. If relaxation is more your speed, head to the adults-only area at the back of the ship - or the aft, as we novice sailors call it. Here, you can unwind in the suspended infinity pool and soak up expansive ocean views with a cocktail in hand, all while moving to the rhythm of an Ibiza-style DJ. There's also a shaded bar nearby and a terrace equipped with whirlpools. No need to rush to the bar for a top-up. Efficient waiters will cater to your needs and ensure your glasses are always filled. Chill Island is a three-tiered area where holidaymakers can relax at four pools, including the Royal Bay, the largest pool at sea. Guests can enjoy live bands while sipping tropical cocktails from the swim-up bar, aptly named The Swim and Tonic. There's plenty of entertainment for the kids and sporty types too, including a fantastic mini golf course and a sports court for five-a-side football and basketball on the top deck. And don't fret about the ball going overboard - the entire area is safely enclosed by netting. If you're holidaying with a young family, make a beeline for Surfside. It's the ultimate spot to stay and enjoy a full day of fun, regardless of your children's ages. Little ones and toddlers will have a blast at Splashaway Bay and Baby Bay, while parents can unwind nearby. With numerous lifeguards always on high alert, there's no need to fret about their safety. There's also a multi-level playground named Playscape, which features a rock climbing wall, complete with safety harnesses. Just like Star of the Seas, it takes cruising to a whole new level.
