Everton veteran Coleman picked up a thigh injury in the Toffees’ last-ever game at Goodison Park, a 2-0 win over Southampton, while Szmodics is still recovering from the ankle surgery that has seen him sidelined since February. Coleman’s recovery will take around three weeks while the decision was made not to risk Szmodics, with Heimir Hallgrímsson saying “hopefully he will have a good pre-season and come in flying in September.” Stoke City’s Andrew Moran has been called up by and will join the squad when they meet up for camp on Sunday. Advertisement Regarding Coleman’s future and the possibility he may not be around for the World Cup qualifiers, Hallgrímsson said: “That’s for him to decide, not me. “He is a leader in this squad and you cannot have his experience n many players. His experience, his leadership skills are one thing, but his quality as a player is another thing as well. “He’s been playing at the highest level for such a long time, so it’s a shame for me and, of course the national team, not to have him around, but hopefully there will come another time for him, hopefully it will be just the off-season and he’ll come fit and flying. “I know he’s gong to be at Everton in whatever role, maybe a little bit more leadership role, but it’s for hm to answer if he’s going to continue playing or not. “It’s his decision, but I’m hoping – and I know the Evertonians are hoping – he will continue playing.” Ireland host Senegal in the Aviva Stadium next Friday, 6 June, before travelling to face Luxembourg on Tuesday 10 June.
