He has overtaken Sachin Tendulkar to become the batter with the most runs in India vs England Tests in England. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, who opened the batting, had a brilliant stand of 91 runs. Rahul was the first wicket to fall after scoring 42 runs by Brydon Carse. Just a few balls later, Sai Sudharsan, the new batter at no.3 was dismissed for a duck, as he had a debut to forget. After lunch, Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill continued India's onslaught. The duo went on to slam a century partnership. Jaiswal went on to score a century in his first innings on English soil. He was dismissed for 101. After that Rishabh Pant and Gill continued to score the runs with a double century stand, with Gill going on to be dismissed after hitting 147. Pant too slammed a century, as he scored 130. After that, the Indian batters fell like a pack of cards, as they were all for 471. Despite Jasprit Bumrah getting an early breakthrough, England fought back excellently as Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope put on a century partnership for the second wicket. Bumrah then broke the stand with the scalp of Duckett, and also took the wicket of Joe Root later. Ollie Pope went on to smash a century.
