Now appointed as vice-captain of the Indian Test team Pant addressed the media ahead of the first Test against England at Headingley Leeds beginning June 20. India Mourns the Air Tragedy
The tragic crash of the London-bound Boeing flight on June 12th claimed the lives of 275 people including passengers crew and the flight captain. The incident shocked the entire nation and drew condolences from across the world with several British nationals also among the deceased. The emotional impact of the tragedy continues to be deeply felt across India.
Pant acknowledged this during the press conference saying ldquoThe whole of India is disheartened. We want to do our bit to bring happiness back to the people. Emotions are high and we understand the responsibility we carry.rdquo
A New Leadership Era Begins
With Test cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stepping away from the red-ball format a new leadership duo has taken the reinsmdashShubman Gill as captain and Rishabh Pant as vice-captain. Pantrsquos experience in English conditions is expected to be vital for this fresh-faced side.
Confirming the batting line-up Pant revealed that Gill would anchor the No.4 position while he himself would step in at No.5. The announcement reflects a tactical reshuffle aimed at building a resilient core for the future.
Trophy Ceremony Postponed Out of Respect
Out of reverence for the tragic event the England and Wales Cricket Board ECB has postponed the ceremony for the unveiling of the newly renamed Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy formerly known as the Pataudi Trophy. The renaming was meant to honour two of the gamersquos greats but has now been delayed to allow for a period of mourning.
