India wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat will reportedly ply his trade for an English club in hopes of reviving his red-ball career. Bharat, who went unsold at the two-day IPL mega auction last year, will represent Dulwich CC in the Surrey Championship – Premier Division that starts in April.
Bharat played seven Tests for India between 2023 and 2024. He scored 221 runs including a best of 44 besides effecting 19 dismissals (18 catches and a stumping).
The 31-year-old represents Andhra in domestic cricket and has decent record in first-class cricket having scored 5686 runs from 105 games at an average of 36.44. He has 10 centuries and 32 fifties.
Bharat was part of India’s playing XI for the ICC World Test Championship final in 2023 where the lost to Australia. He scored a combined 28 runs in the contest and took five catches.
The return of first-choice wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and the arrival of young Dhruv Jurel meant Bharat has fallen down in the pecking order.
In the recent Ranji Trophy season, he played in just two games and managed one fifty across four innings. He took 9 catches.
He joins the growing list of active Indian cricketers who have in recent times have played for various clubs in England. The likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Venkatesh Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal among others have played county cricket while Shardul Thakur has signed for Essex for the season ahead.
Bharat was among the players who were shortlisted for the IPL mega auction last year. He though filed to find any takers. He has been part of three IPL franchises including Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans in the past.
