Indian Women’s Team to Hold Week-Long Conditioning Camp in Vizag Ahead of World Cup
@Source: news18.com
Ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, the Indian women’s cricket team will participate in a week-long skill-based conditioning camp in Visakhapatnam starting August 25. The camp aims to prepare the players for the tournament’s challenges, with a particular focus on adapting to different venues.
The choice of Visakhapatnam is notable. Only three players in the current squad—Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Sneh Rana—have previously played at the ACA-VDCA Stadium, and that was back in 2014.
India will play two crucial matches at this venue, facing South Africa on October 9 and Australia on October 9 and Australia on October 12.
Limited experience at grounds such as Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, and Indore has been one of the major concerns leading into the World Cup.
The conditioning camp was initially planned for Bengaluru but had to be relocated after the Karnataka State Cricket Association could not obtain police clearance for matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Navi Mumbai has also replaced Bengaluru as one of the World Cup venues, which may benefit India since the team has played there frequently in both international cricket and the Women’s Premier League over the past three to four years.
All players selected for the World Cup squad, their reserves, and the India A team—chosen for warm-up games—will participate in the Visakhapatnam camp. As part of preparations, the team will play two intra-squad day-and-night practice matches before heading to New Chandigarh for a three-match ODI series against Australia, starting September 16.
Following the ODI series, the team will move to Bengaluru for two official warm-up games—against England on September 25 and New Zealand on September
India will then travel to Guwahati to commence their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on September
With the tournament approaching, the camp in Visakhapatnam will provide the Women in Blue with vital match practice and help them acclimatise to conditions at one of their key World Cup venues.
