BCCI's decision to reward the Indian Cricket Team with a cash prize has received severe criticism. India defeated New Zealand to lift the Champions Trophy title in Dubai recently. The India cricket board announced a whopping INR 58 crore reward for Rohit Sharma and Co. All the cricketers are set to receive 3 crore each while head coach Gautam Gambhir also will pocket the same amount. But the sheer difference between cricket and other sports has once again come to light.Ajit Mann has criticised BCCI's move to reward the Indian cricketers after their Champions Trophy 2025 triumph. Ajit, who also happens to be the coach of wrestler Ravi Dahiya, insisted that money should be equally distributed among cricket and other sports. In an exclusive interview with REPUBLIC, he said, “This is an injustice for other sports because cricketers are already quite rich. The other sports don't have much money. Athletes who are a part of the TOPS scheme have got benefits and results have also reflected as the medal count has exceeded. The other sports should also receive more money.”Also Read: How Much Will Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma Earn As BCCI Announces 58 Crore Prize Money For CT 2025 Winning Team, Check DetailsHe also pointed out the fact that a sport like wrestling is being played by more than 30 nations while in cricket only a handful number of countries take part."Every sport should get equal respect and if the athletes get more money then in the near future India will get more medals. Cricket is only played by 10-12 nations. But in the World Wrestling Championship, more than 30 countries take part. These athletes should receive more monetary assistance because they have the need.“Cricket has almost ended other sports in the country. Now there is cricket on TV, cricket in the newspaper, cricket is everywhere. Other sports are lagging behind because of cricket,” He said.Ranjit Bajaj, the owner of the football club Delhi FC also urged to back the upcoming budding talents who are in dire need of financial support. He told REPUBLIC, "It's not a progressive move at all. If you look at it and ask what do they need, they certainly don't need more money. We have this tendency in our country, not in cricket but in every sport that we start rewarding the ones who made it and not just rewarding them, over rewarding them.“The time they need the money before they made it and after they made it they get enough money, accolades and jobs and sponsorships. But before no one supports them that's why the number of champions coming from our country are very few and if we start being generous to the athletes who are yet to make it who all have potential.”
