IPL fans had to extend their stay at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the capital city when Delhi Capitals took on Rajasthan Royals in what turned out to be a blockbuster contest on Wednesday. Chasing Delhi Capitals’ score of 188 for 5, Rajasthan Royals looked well on course for a victory but Australian pacer Mitchell Starc’s final over of the match turned out to be the difference between both the teams. As it turned out, Rajasthan Royals exacted DC’s score, posting 188 for 4 in response. Here’s what happened next. After successfully defending all of 9 runs in the final over of the RR innings, Starc was once again handed the ball as the match headed towards the first Super Over of this year’s IPL edition. Since Rajasthan Royals batted second, they were the first to bat in the Super Over. Out came Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag – a combination that puzzled the commentators. They wondered why Nitish Rana, who had earlier smacked 51 off 28, did not step out to bat at a crucial juncture of the game. Delhi Capitals were asked to chase 12 in 6 deliveries and KL Rahul along with Tristan Stubbs were tasked to bring victory home. The duo did so comfortably with two deliveries to spare. Starc was deservedly crowned with Player of the Match award as he snatched victory seemingly out of nowhere. ‘IPL Is IPLing’ Fans were obviously thrilled. Then, MS Dhoni played a match-winning knock for Chennai Super Kings against Lucknow Super Giants in an outing that reminded everyone of vintage Dhoni. The viewers of the game saw Punjab Kings losing after posting a mammoth 245 on the scoreboard, which was followed up by Punjab Kings defending the lowest total in the IPL history.
