Ireland player ratings as they impress in beating Italy in Parma
@Source: irishmirror.ie
Ireland recorded their first 2025 Women's Six Nations win, defeating Italy in Parma with the most pleasing aspect being it was comfortable and long over as a contest as the hour passed. The backs haven't played so well as a united for a long time while the pack was tigerish in defence. It was a heartening display all-round following the opening defeat to France in Dublin last week. Stacey Flood - Very much growing into the full-back shirt, Italy's continually box-kicking in her direction was ill-advised to say the least. Linked well when coming to the attacking line. 8 Anna McGann - Tracked Higgins and in place to take the scoring pass ahead of second try, stayed wide to take the pass and race over for third try. Very much settling into this team as star turn. 8 Aoife Dalton - Dream start with first-minute try, having the presence to pick up, turn, race at the line and hold off defender. Part of Ireland best centre-combination performance for long time. TV Player of the Match. 9 Eve Higgins - Searing first-centre breaks are rarely a feature for this unit but a show-and-go and bust ahead of second try was sensational, with a second bust soon after ahead of Costigan's try. 8 Amee-Leigh Costigan - Showed her maturity last week when taking over the captaincy from McMahon and put in another top of the range, physically tough game, rewarded with scoring the third try. 8 Dannah O'Brien - Four first-half conversions was in direct contrast to the poor place-kicking against France. Another outing where class was evident but still mixed some of the average. 8 Aoibheann Reilly - Fast to rucks and fast to distribute from rucks. Picked to work specifically with O'Brien, her longer pass allowing the out-half go a little deeper when kicking. 7 READ MORE: A Star is Born: Ireland's rugby no8 Aoife Wafer is about to set our sports world on fire - One F in Foley Niamh O'Dowd - World class defensive work in the first-half, 15 tackles, culminating in with combining with Dalton to hold Italy up over the line at half-time. 19 tackles when subbed after 57 minutes. 9 Neve Jones - All about the park all the time, 14 carries, important rip and steal early in the second-half. Again, part of the front-row brick wall, 16 tackles before taken in after 61 minutes. 8 Linda Djougang - Rock solid at scrum, stayed in the fight the whole time. Once again, terrific in defence with 16 tackles in 58 minutes. Yellow carded after 58 minutes for a high tackle. 8 Ruth Campbell - Another player standing up and being counted in defence, 19 tackles is a huge, huge total for a second-row adding to overall numbers being posted by this pack. 8 Fiona Tuite - One of three changes from last week, worked hard in the eight-person pack hich was conceding quite an amount of weight to the Italians. Good showing in an excellent lineout. 8 Edel McMahon - Missed out last week but back, not only to skipper the side but feature as a marauding menace. 15 first-half tackles alone and pick of what was a superb back-row on the day. 9 Erin King - A super first-minute poach gaining the penalty from which the opening try came and set the tone. 11 carries for 25 metres over 80 minutes, 18 tackles as well. 9 Aoife Wafer - Turned 22 last Tuesday and a quiet first-half in that McMahon was doing as much work! Strong in attack, 16 carries for 43 metres in her 58 minutes and lethal in defence. 9 Replacements: Clíodhna Moloney 7, Siobhán McCarthy 7, Christy Haney 7, Grace Moore t, Dorothy Wall 8, Brittany Hogan 8, Emily Lane 7, Enya Breen 7.
