Irish caddie 'like Yoda' as he helps inspire rising star Min Woo Lee to first PGA Tour win

Min Woo Lee was all smiles on Sunday evening after he clinched victory at the Houston Open, keeping his cool to triumph over the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Gary Woodland at Memorial Park Golf Course. Rory McIlroy, the Holywood sensation, nearly crashed the party with a stellar final round of -6, showing promising form from the Northern Ireland ace just in time for this week's Masters. For Lee, it marked a significant milestone as he bagged his first-ever PGA Tour title. "It's hard, really hard," admitted a 26 year old Lee following his victory. "Scottie is a wonderful golfer and he keeps you on your toes. This is my first time being in front and trying to hold a lead. I'm glad I got it done, but man, I'm just very exhausted," reports Belfast Live. "It was a lot of mental grind. I'm so proud of the way I handled myself." Behind every top golfer often stands a top-notch caddie, and Lee's current right-hand man is none other than Brian 'Bo' Martin. The name might ring a bell for golf enthusiasts from Martin's stint carrying Shane Lowry's clubs. The duo clinched the Open Championship at Royal Portrush in 2019, having first teamed up at the Portugal Masters in 2018. Their partnership came to an end in January 2023. Martin, who had considered hanging up his caddie bib, joined forces with Lee towards the tail end of last year, and they're now hitting their stride. Like many caddies who know their way around the course, Martin, a scratch golfer himself, hails from Ardglass Golf Club in County Down and is the uncle of pro golfer Cormac Sharvin. Martin and Lee are now setting their sights on this week's Masters at Augusta, marking the first major of the 2025 season. The Aussie star feels Martin's help has brought his game to a new level and he has hailed the Co Down man's wisdom and influence. "It's like getting advice from Yoda," said Lee after Sunday's maiden win on Tour. Get the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email alerts.
