The Peter Isoaimo Cup was officially launched on the weekend in a vibrant ceremony at Pinu Village, signalling the start of a six-weekend sports tournament that will see teams from across Gabadi Constituency compete in rugby and netball.
Officiating the launch on behalf of the Minister were Second Secretary Victor Lakae and village leader Philomena Kassman Carbry.
Lakae said “The Minister remains committed to empowering the people of Kairuku—not only through sports, but also through business initiatives, community outreach, and faith-based programs,”
In response, Carbry thanked the office of Minister Isoaimo for his generous support, sponsoring the tournament with K20,000.00 and called on all participating teams to play with true sportsmanship,
“This tournament is more than a game—it’s a unifying force for all villages in Gabadi and we thank Minister Isoaimo for his support and call on all players to compete with discipline and respect.”
Kairuku Electoral Officer, Gabriel Toro, echoed these sentiments, describing the event as the first of its kind for the area.
He encouraged youths, men, and women to participate actively, stay healthy, and use sports as a platform to showcase their talents and skills.
He also urged the youth to avoid illicit substances and instead focus on building friendships, discipline, and positive lifestyles.
“We want our youth to stay away from harmful substances and instead focus on building discipline, friendships, and a better future through sports,” Toro said.
The tournament, sponsored by Minister for Energy and Member for Kairuku Peter Isoaimo, features seven village teams of Pinu, Totu, Maiva, Ukaukana, Keveona, Kaupuana and Magabaira and aims to promote community spirit, youth engagement, and healthy competition.
Minister Isoaimo, who was unable to attend due to illness after recent overseas duties, sent a message of appreciation through Lakae.
The tournament will span six weekends and will be drawing crowds from across the area and providing a platform for showcasing talent, promoting peace, and strengthening village ties.
Representing the Minister, Lakae conveyed the MPs apologies for not attending due to illness after returning from overseas ministerial duties.
He reassured the public of the Minister’s continued commitment to empowering youth and women in the district,
not only through sports but also through community outreach, business initiatives, and faith-based programs.
