The summer of 2022 was a strange time for rugby’s most exciting young players because for the third year running the U-20s World Cup was cancelled on the back of Covid. In a bid to provide some sort of meaningful game-time for the next generation of rising stars, the ‘Summer Series’ was introduced, but for all its merits, it has already been forgotten about as it lacked the prestige of a Junior World Cup.
