Jana Kramer and Allan Russell are opening up about when they officially tied the knot, and it wasn't at their romantic ceremony in Scotland. During the Tuesday, March 11 episode of her Whine Down podcast, the actress and singer, 41, along with her husband and former soccer player Russell, 44, answered some questions from podcast listeners — including one question about when they had officially gotten married, as rumors had circulated for months before their July 2024 wedding when Russell began wearing his wedding band. "Dun. Dun. Dun. Breaking news." Kramer says in the clip. Although Russell pokes fun at the question — asking, "These are the questions I don't get. What difference does it make to [the podcast listener's] life?" — the pair ultimately decide to answer, as Kramer even recalls one of her closest friends being left out of the loop on their official nuptials. "I think we should answer it though, because listen, you started wearing your ring, and there was a lot of questions if we got married, and we did not answer them," Kramer continues. "With this, it was nice to not say anything and let people think whatever they wanted to think because I didn't wanna share. And it was something between us that we decided that we weren't going to elaborate more on it," the singer continues, also opening up about how it felt "weird" that she and her husband hadn't officially gotten married when they welcomed their son Roman, 1, in November 2023. Play now! “To answer your question: Yeah, we got married in January, and we made it formal to people in July,” Russell said, adding it was nice to keep it between them for the last 15 months. According to the couple, they were "desperate to get married" and eventually decided to go to the courthouse for a simple ceremony — one without vows or any other special additions — so they could save it for their formal ceremony in Russell's native county of Scotland later that year. The pair hadn't even begun calling each other "husband and wife" until their Scotland ceremony, either. “Our wedding date is July 13. We just made it official a little earlier," Kramer adds. "... But there was something so beautiful and just, private and precious about us holding that together and it just being like, just us having that together without the whole world." Russell and Kramer would eventually marry on July 13, 2024 at Carnell Estate 25 miles from Glasgow in Scotland, The couple was joined by 35 of their closest family and friends, including Kramer’s two kids whom she shares with ex Mike Caussin, daughter Jolie, 8, and son Jace, 5, as well as Russell's son Troy, 16, from a previous relationship and their son Roman. We had talked about just going away and doing it ourselves, but it was important for me to have the wedding for Jolie and Jace, so they can see that we're married now," Kramer told PEOPLE at the time, opening up about their traditional celebration. The couple first met on social media, and Russell eventually traveled from his then-home in England to Nashville for a date with Kramer on the way around Christmastime 2022. After meeting at the 1 Hotel, Kramer says she knew it was "game over." They got engaged just six months later. "I've also never been so excited to walk down the aisle to someone, and it didn't need to be this big thing. It's going to be very small and intimate and everything that we wanted," she added. "We're getting married in Scotland, so the background is already stunning as it is. I just want to marry him, and I want my closest friends there. That's all that truly matters to us and our family.”
