Jason Day Gets Real on Catching Rory McIlroy at The Masters
@Source: newsweek.com
Rory McIlroy has stolen the press at The Masters with a masterful Saturday performance that will go down in the history books as an all-timer if he goes on to win.McIlroy had arguably the best start to a round ever at The Masters and hit some of the best shots of the day. Other players chasing him have had their moments, but haven't been able to sustain it throughout the day.One of those players is Jason Day, a former PGA Champion who is having a great week of his own at Augusta National. Day's 54-hole score of 5-under par has him in the top 10 and is within striking distance of everyone... except McIlroy.Day wasn't ready to count himself out after his round, but he knows that McIlroy will be tough to catch on Sunday."I feel like if he can come back to us a little bit -- but once again, Sundays at Augusta is unlike any other tournament," Day said. "You just never know what potentially could happen. I know that if you shoot a low one, you can use the crowd as momentum, and it also works against you, as well. If you can start hearing the crowd through the golf course."All I can do is just try and give myself the best chances tomorrow and hopefully I capitalize on some of the putts."McIlroy carded a 6-under 66 for his round, including a pair of eagles on Nos. 2 and 15 that will live on in Masters history forever if he goes on to win.Of course, it has to be frustrating for someone like Day to be grinding out a round while McIlroy makes it look easy behind him."Can't do anything," Day said. "Some guys are just -- you want to go over there and break every club in his bag, but that's just not going to work. He's clearly playing some good golf, so you've got to do the best job you can, and when someone just clearly plays better -- I've been on the receiving end of a couple of those where he's run away with it a little bit, Congressional when I finished second there and he beat me by eight."Day will start the final round seven shots off the lead, but certainly has the talent to make a late push.More Golf: PGA Tour Star Puts Rory McIlroy's Masters Performance into Perspective
