Jasprit Bumrah Reveals: 'Jofra Archer Messaged Me When He Was Injured And...'

Jasprit Bumrah has revealed that he had ‘a lot of conversations’ with England pacer and current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy opponent Jofra Archer as he recovered from his bout with injuries. Bumrah said that he’s ‘really happy’ to see Archer make his comeback in the format after over four years.
Archer last played a Test in 2021. He suffered recurrent back and elbow injuries and didn’t play much cricket in any format. Recently, he made a comeback in white-ball cricket before picking up a thumb injury that delayed his Test return and made him miss the first two Tests of this series at Headingley and Edgbaston.
“During the injury phase, he (Archer) messaged me and we had a lot of conversations, I am really happy that he has gotten back to Test cricket, a format that he loves,” Bumrah told the presenter and wife, Sanjana Ganesan, on Sony Sports Network.
Bumrah also reflected on his career and his status as one of the greatest to have played the sport.
“I don’t really think about media and stuff, I am very proud of my Test career,” he said. “I worked really hard and really happy with the journey. There have been a few changes (since the start of Test career), I have a lot of grey hair, married and I have a young son as well. I always keep on working on my game, the hunger is there and I always keep challenging myself. You only have one career and after your career, you will always have time to relax, I always motivate myself like that.”
This interview took place before the third day of the Test at Lord’s. Bumrah added another five-for to his career tally with a 5/74 in the first innings. It was the 13th of his career outside India — the most for a bowler in the country in away Tests.
‘Getting Joe Root’s wicket gives you a lot of confidence’: Bumrah
One of the five wickets was England’s best batter, Joe Root, whom he also got rid of in the first Test. That makes it 11 times that Bumrah has won that battle.
“Whenever you get him (Root) out, gives you a lot of confidence and puts pressure on the opposition as well,” Bumrah said about the feat. “He is a world class player. The ball is a little different from the last series I played here, obviously I understand dry conditions and hot summer as well. The ball used to stay harder for long, that doesn’t happen anymore and that is something I cannot change and don’t have the power to.”
