Joaquin Niemann is Told To Return To PGA For Chance At Major

Part of any pro golfer’s dream is to win a major event. There are four major events held throughout the year: the Masters, the PGA Championship, the US Open, and the Open Championship. This year, LIV Golf star Joaquin Niemann has set his sights on winning one. However, with LIV Golf’s current standing in the world and how different each event is from other tours, it has been suggested that Niemann should return to the PGA to stand a better chance. Niemann’s Current Standing At the time of writing, Niemann is sitting comfortably at the top of LIV. Since joining the league as it launched, he has worked his way to the number one position in LIV. With five LIV wins, he is set to start breaking records in the still fairly new league. Outside of LIV is where the problems start. Like all players in LIV, earning OWGR points is an uphill battle. The only opportunities for points are outside the LIV circuit. During major events, he has been to Niemann has yet to register in the top ten. So, what is a golfer to do in this situation to improve one’s standing? Curtis Strange has an idea. Return To The PGA Curtis Strange has stated that Niemann needs to return to the PGA if he wants a chance to win a major. In a conference call, Strange says that Niemann is just not around the biggest and best players in the world right now. Niemann is not getting his skill honed under the pressure to keep up. “I think the first thing Joaquín has to do is get over [to the PGA Tour] and play more regular golf on the bigger stages against the better players in the world,” he told reporters. “I’m not knocking anybody, but it’s just the reality of when you’re not on that stage as often as these other players are playing the regular Tour, then you might not be as comfortable as if you were doing it on a regular basis. Certainly a wonderful player.” Defecting from LIV back to the PGA will be an issue for his standing as per the PGA’s year-long suspension policy. He could go the same route as Laurie Canter and keep his game up in another league while waiting out the suspension. However, Joaquin Niemann doesn’t seem too interested in jumping ship again. Niemann Right Now Niemann is fairly loyal to LIV Golf right now. As stated before, he is at the top of the league’s charts, and he has five wins under his belt. Sure, the other players in the league don’t have much in terms of ranking on the OWGR. Only two are in the top 100, but they are still incredibly skilled players. Dustin Johnson was in the No. 1 position before joining LIV. Niemann is still looking forward to competing in the majors. His performance has earned him opportunities to play in the majors through an invitation. He managed to finish the Masters T29 with Denny McCarthy and saw McIlroy’s grand slam. Niemann also has the opportunity to participate in the PGA Championships. He is confident in his abilities, and maybe he’ll bring a few surprises.
