Jofra Archer's Gesture To Taunt Pundit Who Said He 'Won't Play Another Test' Goes Viral

England’s 22-run win over India at Lord’s earned Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes a satisfying I told you so moment. After the win, Archer roamed around the greens at Lord’s wearing a blue pork pie hat to taunt pundit Jonathan Agnew, who made a bet with skipper Stokes in the 2021/22 Ashes that the pacer won’t play another Test. At that time, Archer had been missing international cricket for a few months due to injuries, and there was hope he’d return soon. However, serious stress fractures in his back and elbow struck him at regular intervals, delaying his return. He was supposed to be part of England’s squad for the first two Tests against India, but an unfortunate thumb injury hindered that, too. He finally made his long-awaited comeback in the third game and did it like he had never left, regularly clocking speeds of over 145 kph with scary consistency and taking five key wickets. “Jofra Archer back in the side, which is something that not everybody thought might happen,” Agnew had asked Stokes at the toss. “We had a bet, didn’t we? Do you like this hat? Unfortunately, the colour is a little bit off, but I’ll take my ‘I told you so’ moment from, what was it, three years ago?” replied the captain. Agnew then interviewed Archer and asked the same question. The pacer was obviously wearing the hat. “You must have thought over these four years about coming back and perhaps not coming back, and so to be part of a game like this might really mean a lot,” Agnew asked. “I never thought about not coming back, that was just you,” Archer replied. How Archer hit back at keyboard warriors In another interview after the match, Archer also taunted the ‘keyboard warriors’ who were after him during his time out with the injuries. “I guess I was a little bit emotional (after England’s win). It was a long journey. I can’t tell you the amount of keyboard warriors there have been for the last three or four years,” he told Sky Sports. “It (comeback) was a long time coming, a lot of rehab, a lot of training but it’s moments like this that make it all worth it. The whole crowd gave me a huge lift,” he added.
