Johan Mjallby sees Celtic wise up as Brendan Rodgers learns his lesson to eliminate subtle weakness

Johan Mjallby has revealed why he thinks Celtic are better under Brendan Rodgers this season after pinpointing a weakness that was exploited last term. The champions are almost certain to retain their Premiership crown having built up a 13 point lead over rivals Rangers while the Premier Sports Cup is already in the bag. A Scottish Cup quarter-final clash at home to Hibs still needs to be negotiated, but they are favourites to lift the famous old trophy and complete a domestic clean sweep once again. Progress in Europe has been the telling achievement, however. It's the reason Rodgers returned to Parkhead and after a humiliating night in Dortmund ended in yet another Champions League skelping on the road, the penny seemed to drop and the Hoops stepped it up to reach the last 16 of the competition for the first time in nearly 15 years, narrowly losing out to Bayern Munich. And Mjallby has seen Celtic wise up on one front this term and insists they are reaping the benefits. he told The Warm Up: “The biggest difference for me from last season is the balance is much better. I think the balance is much better, they know when to attack. “In the past, they were just pressing all the time. They were just putting their heads down and just pressing, pressing, pressing. And then they got caught out sometimes. “But I think especially, the back four has been much more solid this season and that’s why – especially in Europe where they need to defend a wee bit more – it’s been much better.”
