Johnny Kenny insists he’ll jump at the chance to pen a new deal at Parkhead. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers r evealed this week he’s planning to offer the 22-year-old a new deal with 18 months left on his current contract. Kenny – who was snapped up from Sligo Rovers in January 2022 – won’t hesitate to sign as he’s out to make his name with the Hoops. He said “Hopefully that can be done soon. I’d love to sign a new contract for this club. At the end of the day it’s the club I want to play for. “Since I came back in January, I can’t describe how good the manager’s been for me. “Obviously, he wants me to sign a new deal, so I think that’s very promising for me at this club and I’ll be happy to sign a new contract. “I don’t really see it being a problem at all. When it’s going to get done, hopefully in the next few weeks. We need to start talks now and let’s see where it goes from there.” Rodgers views Kenny as a top long term prospect but in the short term there could be another loan switch. The frontman – who scored on his full debut at Pittodrie last season – spent two seasons at Shamrock Rovers following a short stint at Queen’s Park . Kenny would love to remain in the first team with the Hoops but he’s happy to be led by the boss. He said: “Whatever the manager decides, I think he’ll have a pathway for me. “I don’t think he’s going to keep me here and not play me. So, whatever the manager decides I’m all behind. “Everything he’s told me since January has been 100 percent, so I believe in the manager.” Rodgers is looking for his squad to put the foot down this week after the Hoops landed at their pre-season camp in Portugal. The Scottish champs will spent the next week based on the outskirts of Lisbon, with a closed doors clash with Estrela up this weekend before a glamour clash with Sporting Lisbon in Faro next Wednesday. Rodgers has been pleased with the preparations so far and he’s set to welcome back several star turns in the next few days, with Kieran Tierney and new recruit Benjamin Nygren due to feature on Saturday, along with Daizen Maeda, Adam Idah, Liam Scales and Tony Ralston. Rodgers said: “The start to the pre-season has been really good and we’ve got to continue working very, very hard. I think that’s the nature of pre-season. “There’s no let-up, there’s nothing easy, got to work to build that foundation of fitness and then we’ll be, as I said, fully prepared, but we’re looking forward to Portugal.”
