Judd Trump and Kyren Wilson are going head to head tonight in the Players Championship final in Telford. Trump beat John Higgins in the semi-finals, stretching his winning run over the Scot to 12 consecutive matches. Victory for the Ace in the Pack has set up a showpiece against world number two Wilson for a chance to pocket £150,000. “I had four or five years where he (Kyren Wilson) didn’t beat me before this season. I can see the confidence when he walks around the table. His body language has been different since winning the World Championship,” said 35-year-old Trump. “For me it is difficult because I’m playing at my level, I’m not full of confidence. If I win the World Championship or something like that I would take the game to that kind of level. He’s in a purple patch, but it’s not going to last forever. It makes for an exciting rivalry for snooker. “I feel that at the start of my career it was the other way around (against John Higgins). He was making incredible clearances to beat me. It is nice to turn it around. I’m obviously confident to beat him. It is probably in the back of his head that he hasn’t beaten me for a while, but I still have to go out there and do it. I need to play near my best every time.” Let's get to know the snooker star a bit better away from the green baize.... Having won 29 rankings tournaments and four Triple Crown titles since turning professional nearly two decades ago, Trump has naturally amassed significant wealth. He is estimated to have a net worth of around £10million, having earned more than £8m in prize money, according to CueTracker. Trump has won three events and earned the most prize money in a single campaign this term, meaning his earnings are set to get even larger should he win tonight. Personal life Trump has impressively managed to keep his personal affairs out of the spotlight, yet it's common knowledge that he's romantically involved with Hong Kong figure skater and TV personality Maisy Ma. The 25-year-old was not in competition at the Paris Olympics last summer but took on the role of presenter instead. A hit on Instagram, Ma charms nearly 180,000 followers, while Trump himself commands a significant digital audience, with over 287,000 fans. Despite their public personas, the couple opts for discretion on social media, choosing not to post photographs of one another - a clear indication of their preference for privacy. Speaking of his connections to the UK, Trump has chosen to relocate. No longer calling the UK his full-time residence, he now divides his time mainly between the Middle East and Hong Kong. Discussing his current way of living, he mentioned: "My travel plans are maybe a little bit different now than they were in the past 34 years." He's discovered a new fondness for global travel and keeps his visits to the UK brief. He commented: "I'm happy travelling around the world, spending as little time in the UK as possible at the moment. Because I don't really enjoy it as much there anymore." Travel appears to be having an uplifting effect on his mood. Trump expands on this, stating: "While I'm still reasonably young, I'm trying to make sure I have a good time off the table as well. I think it's easier knowing that I don't have the old 20-hour journey home. That helps me." He indicated a notable change in his career plans: "I think I will be based in the Middle East now rather than in the UK. I don't feel like you have to play in the UK anymore full-time. I really don't." Family ties remain significant for him, though with a touch of levity: "My mum misses me I'm not sure about my dad! At least he gets to watch me on the TV. They will always be at the big events in the UK." While Trump may be leading the rankings as the world's top player, Ronnie O'Sullivan continues to be the most recognised face in snooker, despite a dip in his recent performances. The warm respect between O'Sullivan and Trump was clear for all to see with their long hug after O'Sullivan's win over Trump in the 2022 World Championship final. O'Sullivan has always had words of praise for Trump, with comments such as during a Eurosport commentary ahead of the last UK Championship: "As a kid, we all heard about Judd Trump knocking in balls, making his breaks and 147s and breaking all my records as a kid. He's just a special talent, very, very gifted. "He was always going to be a champion. He was always going to be a great, great player, win a lot of tournaments and you just can't stop it when someone is that good and that talented. You just have to sit back, watch it and admire it."
