The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) successfully raised K156,000 today at the Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge, held at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club. The annual fundraising event saw 39 teams participate, demonstrating strong corporate support for Team PNG as they prepare to represent the country at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau, scheduled from June 29th to July 9th.
Now in its 27th year, the Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge remains a crucial fundraising initiative for the PNGOC, directly supporting the preparation and participation of national athletes in major international sporting events. The Challenge was first established in Port Moresby in 1998 and expanded to Lae in 2005.
The top five teams at this year’s Port Moresby event were:
Nambawan Savings & Loans (51.52 Nett)
Team Oasis (52.62 Nett)
Kumul Minerals Team 3 (53.75 Nett)
DataCo (54 Nett)
ASAP Finance (54 Nett)
Special guests attending the event included the Honourable Jelta Wong, President for the PNG Olympic Committee; Mrs. Emma Waiwai, OL, PNGOC Secretary General; Desmond Kaviagu; and Team PNG Chef de Mission to Palau 2025, Kinivanagi Karo.
Chef de Mission, Kinivanagi Karo, extended his gratitude to all participants, partners, and sponsors, acknowledging their vital role in the event’s success.
“When you see our national athletes out there, on the track, in the ring, on the court, lifting our flag high, know this: you had a hand in that. You helped get them there. And that feeling, that pride, is something no medal can buy,” Karo stated.
He also thanked the event partner, The National, for their continued support. “Your continued support means the world,” he added. Special appreciation was also extended to support sponsors including Ela Motors, Air Niugini, SP Brewery, Trophy Haus, Trukai Industries, Theodist, High Performance Sport PNG, and Blue 7 Team for their exceptional contributions.
The next Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge is scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2025, in Lae. Registrations are still open, and the PNG Olympic Committee encourages teams of four to register for K3,000 in support of Team PNG.
