U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) couldn’t help but troll President Donald Trump during a chaotic House hearing on Wednesday.
Crockett railed against her GOP colleagues during a House subcommittee hearing on transgender athletes in women’s sports on Wednesday. During her line of questioning, she debuted a new game she called “Trump or trans” to argue how Trump, not trans people, was responsible for a number of problems facing Americans today.
“I want to play a game. It’s called ‘Trump or trans’. You ready? So I’m going to ask you a question, and I want you to tell me whether or not it is Trump or trans people that are responsible. You understand?” Crockett told Fatima Goss Graves, the CEO of the National Women’s Law Center who testified before the subcommittee.
One of Crockett’s staffers held up a placard of Trump playing golf as she started the “game.”
Crockett asked Goss Graves whether it was Trump or trans people who were responsible for “kidnapping Americans and sending them to foreign countries,” “driving us into a recession,” “increasing the cost of everything,” “waging an idiotic tariff war,” and “ignoring the Constitution,” among other issues.
Goss Graves answered with “Trump” for every question.
Crockett then criticized Republicans for not actually addressing the “waste” occurring in the Trump administration, like hosting an expensive military parade on Trump’s birthday or subsidizing his numerous golfing trips.
“This committee could be engaged in actual oversight of fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement. So let’s talk about waste, like Trump’s plan to spend almost $100 million for his little birthday parade, or how he spent 25% of his first 100 days golfing, costing taxpayers tens of millions of dollars,” Crockett said.
“In fact, it’s a little bit over 30 million at our last estimation. In fact, President Trump is on pace to spend more than a billion dollars of taxpayer dollars just on golfing. Yet the Republicans have been silent. So they must think spending taxpayer dollars on the President’s golfing trips is more important than providing health care to their constituents,” she added.
U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) also got caught in another tense exchange with Crockett during the hearing. At several points, Democratic lawmakers accused Greene of surpassing her allotted time limit.
“Madam Chairwoman, your time is expired,” Crockett (D-Texas) told Greene at one point.
“You’re not recognized, Ms. Crockett,” Greene said.
A few minutes later, Crockett raised a point of order about whether Greene was allowed to “editorialize” before each Democratic speaker. This sparked a quick back-and-forth between the two lawmakers, who have engaged in heated public feuds before.
“It’s not a point of order. I know you’re trying to be chair of Oversight,” Greene said.
Crockett responded: “Chair would be better on this side. I do agree with that.”
When New Mexico Rep. Melanie Stansbury, a Democrat, was told her time was up, another squabble ensued and Greene slammed the gavel more than 45 times.
“We stand with the LGBTQ community and you can gavel me until the cows come home, and it won’t stop it,” Stansbury shouted.
